We are talking to the British international who makes good progress but is not about to stay for themselves
After a few months of vertebra, Charlie Wheeler takes the time to think. “I don’t want to say it takes a long time, but I feel that I validate my position in sport a little,” he says.
Striving for his recent progress, but aware of the work to be done, is the 26-but-old-old philosophical about his current status.
At Valencia from January 10 km I walked 27:42 and I went under the British record of Mo Farah with one second, with Rory Leonard set a national figure of 27:38.
Although he became second in the UKM all-time list, that run still saw him 19th ending in Valencia and almost a minute behind Andreas Almgren van Sweden, who went to the European record of 10 km at 26:53.
“It is strange to think:” Oh, you under the old British record, “but they still lose the race for about 50 seconds,” says Wheeler. “If you think you went under a stamp through Mo Farah, but you were so far from the leadership, I mean, how do you think about that? I am sure the Farah of today’s era, Inse shoes, 30 or 40 seconds away.
“So I think you should be careful with comparing your withdrawal athletes, your racet not ghosts, you are competitive AGA Instit the athletes of today. I get closer to that level, but ASE is still a long way to go.”

Wheeler has also compiled more than 10 km for Great Britain – his very first international clothing ever at the European running championships Let Month in Leuven, Belgium. I finished 21st in 28:40 on a narrow and wavy course.
During the first three kilometers of the race, he was part of the leading package, the final winner Yann Schrub, but dropped the field back just before the half point. It was invaluable.
“I hope this will be the first of many performances for Great Britain,” Wheeler adds. “Let’s be realistic, however, this was one of the easier GB teams to make in recent years, so it felt like a foot in the door instead of a large milestone.
“I think I still got a little impost syndrome. Standard and make Olympic and World Teams.”
Wheeler, although it does not distribute the possibility, is of the opinion that the 2025 world championships are currently not a realistic goal, both Belt the Commonwealth Games of next year and European Championships are the most important goals.
Evite are recent progress over 10 km, his preferred distance is still the 5000m, for which his personal record was 13: 20.17 from Boston last February.

“If my summer went perfectly, I think I could get close to the world standard [13:01.00]’, Says Wheeler. “However, I have a lot of progress to make a lot of progress before that time.
“Last summer I was at the Olympic Games and spent a lot of time with athletes after their races. People.”
Wheeler’s twin brother George also competes at a high level and the couple is running for the Milton Keynes Distence project. Although the pair is looking for advice from coach Jim Bennett, they design unusually Equy Training Plan and Wheeler believes that this is currently the right approach.
“We are quite everyday ourselves,” I explained. “It works at the moment because I progs Quito, but I would like to be a little faster!
