Huawei has launched his first laptops force through his actual Harmonyos 5, which marks a signanant relocation on dependence on American technologies. The newly introduced Matebook Fold and Kill Pro models are intended to challenge the dominance of Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s macOS in the global PC market.

The matamship fold, priced on 23,999 Yuan, has an 18-inch OLED-foldable screen without a physical keyboard, aimed at users looking for a versatile, tablet-like experience. The Matebook Pro, on the other hand,, starting at 7,999 Yuan, offers a traditional laptop design with a physical keyboard, aimed at professionals and everyday users. Both models on Harmonyos 5, a Huawei operating system, began to develop in 2015 and was first introduced on smartphones in 2020.

Harmonyos 5 is recommended to offer seamless integration in the Huawei ecosystem, including smartphones, tablets and smartwatches. The operating system has more than 150 native applications, such as WPS Office and the XIU XIU photo processing -MEIT, which offers alternatives to popular Western software. Huawei reports that Harmonyos is now installed on more than a billion devices of glory, with more than 7.2 million developers contributing to his app ecosystem.

The launch of Harmonyos-driven laptops is in response to American sanctions that were impeded in 2019, which limited the access from Huawei to critical technologies from companies such as Intel and Qualcomm. These sanctions led Huawei to speed up the development of its own chips and operating systems to reduce dependence on foreign technology. Although Huawei did not deviate the specific processors used in the new laptops,

Security and privacy are central in Harmonyos 5, with the Starshield security architecture of Huawei. The operating system includes real developer authentication, signature verification of App Store and strict permissions for screen recording and screenshots. A “super privacy mode” switch off the camera, microphone and location access access system-wide, and full-disk coding at chip level increases that data protected, even if the hard disk is deleted.

Harmonyos 5 also introduces artificial advanced intelligence options via the virtual assistant of Huawei, Celia. Built on the company’s own PANGU LARGE Language model, Celia can perform tasks such as summarizing documents, slides for preparations and collecting information from local files. The AI assistant is integrated into the operating system and offers contextual understnding and adapted services based on user behavior.

The debut of Harmonyos laptops is for a milestone in China’s efforts to reach technological self-supply. Analysts suggest that the relocation could reduce dependence on Western operating systems and improve the resilience of the Chinese PC industry against external uncertainties. However, the success of Harmonyos on the global market can depend on the expansion of its apposing system and the capacity of the operating system to meet the various needs of international users.

The Focus of Huawei on the Chinese market is clear, with the Harmonyos laptops that are currently exclusively available in China. By concentrating on his home market, Huawei wants to refine the Harmonyos experience and build a strong user base before they consider international expansion. This strategic approach enables the company to meet specific needs and preferences of Chinese users and to strengthen its position in an important market.
