Preliminary investigations found malpractice and negligence by the doctor who gained popularity on social media

An Arab plastic surgeon in Dubai who gained popularity on social media has left a 23-year-old Emirati woman fully paralysed and in a coma for 16 days during a rhinoplasty to repair a deviated septum.

He then attempted to flee but was arrested at Dubai International Airport, the patient’s family told local media.

Preliminary investigations found malpractice and negligence by the doctors responsible, according to the CEO of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Dr Marwan Al Mulla, who said they will be held accountable and judged for their errors.

The patient’s family said both doctors admitted to their medical errors in the procedure which cost $14,000 (AED50,000), adding that they had been told the procedure in the private hospital would take 2 hours, but were left waiting for 5 hours.

They later discovered that their daughter was taken to another hospital via an ambulance through the back door as the doctors attempted to save her life. She is now in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi but continues to be in a coma.

The DHA said patient safety is a priority and will not be taken lightly in the case of the young Emirati.
